Christopher Ryan Boyd

Ryan is the son of Battalion Chief Ricky Boyd from Battalion 1B. Ryan is currently attending the University of North Texas in Dallas where he is studying Finance. Ryan has already obtained an Associates Degree in Science, Magna Cum Laude, from Navarro College and is now working on his Finance degree in hopes of helping others with their financial needs.

 

Cameron Kelly Wayne Conley

Kelly is the son of Assistant Chief Victor Conley. Kelly is currently attending Southern Arkansas University studying Marketing and Business. After graduating, Kelly hopes to join the management team of a business, eventually saving enough to open a restaurant.

Kara Harris

Kara Harris is the daughter of Firefighter Steven Erick from Station 1A. Kara is currently attending Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina. Although Kara is undecided on her major, she is focusing on studies which will help her continue serving the community.

Melissa Johnston

Melissa is the daughter of Captain William K. Johnston, Jr. from Station 2B. Melissa is currently attending Baylor University seeking a degree in Athletic Training hoping to eventually obtain a Masters in Athletic Training and a National Certification to become a Professional Athletic Trainer.

Thomas Keetch III

Thomas is the son of Firefighter Thomas Keetch Jr. from Station 7C. Thomas is attending Tarrant County College seeking a degree in Fire Science. After obtaining a degree in Fire Science, Thomas will continue at Tarrant County College to become a Licensed Paramedic.

Kylie Marie Kirkpatrick

Kylie is the daughter of Captain Danny Kirkpatrick who just retired in October from Station 10A. Kylie is currently attending Tyler Junior College and working toward a degree in Physical Therapy hoping to become a Physical Therapist like her mother.

Lauren Rene' Smith

Lauren is the daughter of Firefighter Barry Stone from Station 5B. Lauren is attending Southwestern Oklahoma State University studying Pharmacology and seeking to become a Pharmacist.

Rachel Smith

Rachel is the daughter of Fire Equipment Operator/Paramedic Terry Smith from Station 5A. Rachel is currently attending Oklahoma State University studying Architectural Engineering hoping to eventually obtain a Master’s Degree.

Tyler Story

Tyler is the son of Fire Equipment Operator/Paramedic Ken Story from Station 8A. Tyler is attending University of Texas at Tyler, studying to become a Certified Public Accountant, and he is a member of the Patriots baseball team. After college, he is interested in working in the finance department of a large corporation, but is also considering having his own accounting firm working with small businesses, helping them be successful.

Jacob Wooldridge

Jacob is the son of Fire Equipment Operator/Paramedic Tim Wooldridge from Station 2C. Jacob is attending the University of Arkansas focusing on Biology and Chemistry and seeking eventually a PHD in Biology in order to do research combating cancer.

 

  • Must be a child of current or retired Irving Firefighter or Fire Prevention Specialist

  • Is currently attending high school or post high school education or training

  • Maintains 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or higher on a 4.0 scale

  • Post high school students must have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale for the year prior to application.

  • Has completed all current application requirements

  • Is not related to a selection committee member

  • Submit questionnaire

  • Submit essay on why they deserve the scholarship

  • Demonstrates at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale for the 10th, 11th, and 12th grades

  • Demonstrates accomplishments in leadership

  • Demonstrates accomplishments in community service

  • Application DeadlineMarch 1st preceding enrollment of the fall semester

  • Recipients may reapply annually and must maintain a 3.0 (GPA) on a 4.0 scale

  • Scholarships can be used for any type of post–high school education or training —certification, licensing, two or four year trade and technical school, or two or four year college, except post-graduate studies.
