2006 Awards

Each year the Irving Fire Department solicits nominations from its members for the following awards. These awards are presented at the annual Firefighters' Ball.

2008 Awards

Larry D. Erwin

Captain Erwin’s role model as an Officer of the Irving Fire Department inspires his entire crew to pursue excellence in professional development and outstanding service to the department and the community. As a Master Firefighter, he motivates his crew to seek higher levels of training and certification. Through his mentoring, each crew member has identified a course of training which has or will result in higher levels of certification from the Texas Commission on Fire Protection. Captain Erwin also ensures his crew properly applies for and receives the Incentive Pay that accompanies such certifications. As an officer, Captain Erwin encourages his crew to seek promotion, and three members of the crew are currently in the top five of their respective eligibility lists. His role as Chairman of Benevolence Committee (IPFFA), Chairman of the Awards Committee, and member of the Deployment/RIC Truck Committee, prompts others of his crew to follow this pattern of service. Captain Erwin’s coaching sustains the efforts of the crew during the process of preparation and pursuit of the successful completion of these goals. Larry Erwin is a Captain at Station 7-C and has served the city since 9/17/64 (44 years).

David C. Morgan

Dave has continually set the bar high for the firefighter position, he has a can-do attitude with exceptional knowledge of his position. Dave’s personal integrity and willingness to do whatever is asked, exemplifies the character that he possesses. David Morgan is a Firefighter at Station 10-A and has served the city since 4/6/92 (16 years 7 months).

Troy S. Peach

For his paramedic skills and manner of service and compassion given to patients. Also, for representing IFD to the best by working at Hospital part-time and with being a Tactical Medic. Also Dragon Boat Races, MDA and helping improve paramedic skills with fellow firefighters. Troy Peach is a Fire Equipment Operator at Station 2-C and has served the city since 11/27/00 (almost 8 years).

Derek A. Austin

He has taken more responsibility, worked hard to increase his knowledge of the job and I have heard no complaints as he has been given more and more duties. He has worked to increase productivity in the plan review process by participating in a Six Sigma Process Improvement group. He has worked tirelessly to keep the plan review caught up so that the Developers, Contractors and Citizens will not have to wait the usual two weeks to have their plans reviewed. He has organized the plan review area to increase his output. I feel that he projects a very professional image for the Fire Department and he is very deserving of the award. Derek Austin is a Fire Prevention Lieutenant and has served the city since 11/15/99 (almost 9 years).
