2006 Scholarship Fund Goals

  • Net $175,000

  • Deposit $150,000 into an endowment fund

  • Award ten (10) $2,500 scholarships ($25,000 total) in 2007

  • Endowment funds will be invested in American Funds for growth.

  • The $25,000 that will be given in scholarships will be held in a savings account awaiting distribution.

Scholarship Criteria

Any child of current or retired Irving Firefighter or Fire Prevention Specialist who meets the following qualifications is eligible:

  • Submit questionnaire

  • Submit essay on why they deserve the scholarship

  • Maintains 3.0 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or higher

  • Individual currently in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade

  • Demonstrates accomplishments in leadership

  • Demonstrates accomplishments in community service

  • Cannot be related to a selection committee member

Scholarship Stipulations

  • Approximately 15 individuals currently qualify for scholarships

  • Recipients may reapply annually and must maintain a 3.0 (GPA) on a 4.0 scale

  • Deadline – January 1st preceding enrollment of the fall semester

  • Scholarships can be used for any type of post–high school education or training—certification, licensing, two or four year trade and technical school, or two or four year college
